Giza Zoo

Giza Zoo is located in Giza Governorate. The area occupied today by the zoo and the Orman Gardens was once part of the Giza Saray Gardens, used as a botanical garden to supply the Khedivial palaces with trees and plants, and containing a collection of the rarest plants from all over the world.

The zoo displays mammals, birds and reptiles of various types across fourteen areas representing 360 different species — more than a hundred species of snakes (venomous, semi-venomous and non-venomous), turtles, lizards, Egyptian and American crocodiles, as well as gerbils, hedgehogs, scorpions and chameleons. The zoo also serves as a scientific institute where scientists study the behaviour of animals and birds.

Giza Zoo is not only one of the most beautiful zoos in the world but also one of the densest in terms of number and diversity of species. It is also a large exhibition of historical monuments, such as the five grottoes that adorn the park.
