Bab Al-Bunt — Red Sea Museum

Bab Al-Bunt, at the historic Al-Bunt Port in Jeddah, is a significant architectural landmark with deep cultural and historical relevance. It was renowned as the maritime gateway to the Holy City of Makkah, serving as the entry point for pilgrims arriving by sea, and housed the quarantine facility responsible for health inspections.

Its operational role concluded in the mid-twentieth century, after its functions and supporting facilities were relocated to the administration of Jeddah Islamic Port.

The site is now undergoing a comprehensive restoration and adaptive reuse initiative that preserves its heritage while repurposing it into the Red Sea Museum — an institution dedicated to the maritime history of the region.
