500500 Hospital

The National Cancer Institute's new 500500 Hospital in Sheikh Zayed was certified as a green hospital at Gold level — the first healthcare facility in Egypt to receive this certification at the design stage, under the evaluation system for the requirements of the guideline for designing green hospitals and health facilities issued by the National Housing and Building Research Centre of the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and New Communities.

The design adopts the principles of green architecture, which helps address many issues associated with the building: reducing measurable environmental impacts, including mechanisms for dealing with biomedical and consumer waste; contributing to the fight against infection and epidemics; water and energy efficiency; and the preservation of natural resources in general. The design also documents the use of new and renewable energy generation systems.

MCG's role covered technical services and supervision of the implementation of medical and non-medical equipment.
