Al-Hussein Mosque

The development plan for Al-Hussein Mosque falls within the wider programme for Historic Cairo.

Works comprise restoration of deteriorated sections and expansion of the courtyard and internal prayer areas to accommodate large numbers of worshippers, while preserving the aesthetic and decorative character of the building.

The scope includes new internal and external architectural and decorative elements, new interior and exterior lighting systems, central air conditioning and fire-fighting systems; structural consolidation with injection of walls and foundations and strengthening of roofs; restoration of the stone façades, the minarets and the dome with all their ornamental components; restoration of the historic chandeliers and marble columns and of the timber ceilings; and renovation of the deteriorated architectural sections, the internal lighting, the ablution areas and the external square.
