Safaga Port

Safaga is the main port of Upper Egypt, serving its needs for imports, exports and passenger traffic. The port is distinguished by its proximity to coastal areas and to Islamic, Christian and Pharaonic monuments, which contributes to stimulating Arab and international tourism.

The port plays a vital role in transporting Egypt's foreign trade in dust and mineral ores. It also receives large quantities of grain, general goods and heavy equipment, and handles the travel and return of passengers working in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries who are citizens of Upper Egypt, as well as tourists frequenting the South Valley region.

A passenger station and a bridge were established, and the port was provided with five solar energy stations with a production capacity of 4 megawatts. A seawater desalination plant with a production capacity of 500 cubic metres per day was also established, along with many services raising the efficiency of infrastructure in electricity, sanitation and agriculture. Dr. Ashraf Shawky, Chairman of the Board, and the Mentor team carried out development work over the years, designing and supervising the implementation of the port, which President El-Sisi inaugurated in 2017.
