Postal Museum, Ataba

The restoration and renewal of the Egyptian Postal Museum, located in the historical building of the Post Authority in the Ataba area, began in the context of preserving governmental assets and heritage buildings.

The building was rehabilitated and developed, and the area allocated to the museum was doubled to 7,000 square metres to prepare it to become an integrated cultural, historical and entertainment system in the heart of Cairo. The importance of this building comes from being the centre of the city — the zero point from which distance is measured from the capital to all governorates of Egypt, marked by a star at the entrance and its counterpart on the first floor.

The renovation relied on modern technologies including artificial intelligence and information technology, and on QR codes in the museum display to provide more information on selected pieces through films of no more than two minutes. Exhibition halls were prepared to attract conferences, seminars and specialised international exhibitions in coordination with the Egyptian Philatelic Society.
