Baron Empain Palace

Despite being closed for many years, the palace stood firm and retained its historical and artistic value — a witness to the birth of one of the most successful desert-development experiments in Egypt, and an icon in the hearts of the residents of Heliopolis, the city of the sun, revived by the Belgian industrialist Baron Empain.

Restoring Baron Palace was not simply another entry on a list of achievements; it was an event of considerable importance, tied as it is to a strong base of an educated and aware local community.

The palace has been repurposed as an exhibition telling the story of the Heliopolis district and the achievements of its founder. Restoration, rehabilitation and adaptive reuse began after the necessary studies were prepared in 2017, and works were completed in 2020.
