Al Gawhara Palace — Structural Rescue

Al Gawhara Palace stands within Salah El-Din Citadel beside the Muhammad Ali Mosque, and now serves as a museum. It was originally built in 1814 as the residence of Muhammad Ali Pasha's wife.

Muhammad Ali Pasha intended the palace to be exceptionally opulent. It contains several large halls — most notably the reception hall and the clock hall, considered its finest — decorated with the highest Ottoman ornamental craft in both wood and gypsum, and rich in colour, painting and carving.

The palace burned more than once during Muhammad Ali's own lifetime and was rebuilt each time. Structural rescue works began in 2023 to safeguard a building that has witnessed a great deal of Egypt's history.
