Qanibay Al-Rammah Mosque

This mosque was built by Prince Qanibay al-Saifi, Amir Akhor, in 908 AH / 1502 AD, during the sultanate of Qansuh Al-Ghouri (1501–1516). It stands below the Citadel on the northern side of Muhammad Ali Square.

In the south-eastern corner of the courtyard, a door leads to the mausoleum chamber in which the mosque's founder Qanibay was buried. Above the mausoleum rises a dome whose outer surface carries delicate vegetal motifs carved in stone — a dome that projects from the eastern façade of the mosque.

The project restores the mosque and preserves its architectural ornament, returning it to its original state with the help of historical references. Scope includes restoration and maintenance of the external and internal façades, the architectural elements, the roof and the floors.
